After completing the Kora, the tour gradually winds down, taking you back through Saga to Kerung and finally to Kathmandu for some final sightseeing. Upon your arrival in Lhasa, which is the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, you’ll have the day to get settled in. This day is usually reserved for acclimatization to the high altitude and perhaps some light exploration near your accommodation, depending on your time of arrival.

Your tour in Lhasa begins in earnest with visits to some of the most iconic and culturally significant sites in the city. You’ll start with the majestic Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers an unparalleled glimpse into the rich Tibetan history and religious practices. Next, you’ll visit the Jokhang Temple, considered the spiritual heart of the city and a revered holy destination for Tibetan Pilgrims. Finally, you can stroll along Barkhor Street, which surrounds the Jokhang Temple. It’s a lively market street that provides ample opportunities for you to shop for local Tibetan crafts, souvenirs, and sample traditional Tibetan food.

On the third day, the exploration of Lhasa’s religious heritage continues with visits to two of the great Gelugpa monasteries. The Drepung Monastery, once the world’s largest monastery, with a population of around 10,000 monks, offers a window into the vast scholarly life of Tibetan monks. After Drepung, you’ll visit the Sera Monastery, renowned for its lively monk debates that occur in the afternoons from Monday to Saturday. Here, you can witness a unique aspect of monastic education as the monks engage in philosophical debates, a practice that sharpens their minds and understanding of Buddhist teachings.

On the fourth day, you will embark on a scenic drive from Lhasa to Shigatse, which is the second-largest city in Tibet. The journey will take you through the historic city of Gyantse, where you can experience the unique culture and view its well-preserved dzong (fortress) and famous Kumbum Stupa within the Pelkor Chöde Monastery complex. This route offers breathtaking views of Yamdrok Lake and spectacular glimpses of the high Tibetan Plateau, making for an enriching travel experience.

On day five, the journey continues from Shigatse to Xegar, and you will have the thrilling opportunity to visit the Everest Base Camp (EBC). The drive will present you with stunning vistas of the Himalayas, and reaching EBC provides an unforgettable chance to stand in the shadow of the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (known as Mount Qomolangma in Tibetan), and marvel at its grandeur.

The sixth day will be a day of travel from Xegar to Saga, a drive that typically takes between 6 to 7 hours. The route will take you across vast expanses of the Tibetan landscape, allowing you to witness the region’s stark beauty and remote wilderness. It’s a significant leg of the journey that brings you closer to the far western corner of Tibet.

After our breakfast at Saga, we will be driving to the highest fresh water lake in the world, the holy Mansarovar Lake, lying at an altitude of 4558 meters, stretching wide with a pristine greenish-blue color. The holy lake is believed to be the resting place of Lord Bishnu. It is surrounded by Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandata, and the Lake Rakshasha (Rakshash Taal). The Rakshash Taal is believed to be created by the Evil King Ravan, and the locals believe the water is poisonous. Overnight at guest house around Lake Mansarovar.

We will get into our spiritual selves, and perform some rituals (puja) at the bank of the holy lake mansarovar. Our staffs will provide a bucket of hot holy water for each yatri from the lake Mansarovar for bathing. After our puja and prayers, we will complete the Parikrama of the Mansarovar Lake on a Jeep, and continue to the base camp of Kailash, Darchen. It is a village town right in front of the sacred Mt. Kailash. Overnight at hotel.

We will embark on a three – day parikrama. We first drive to the small settlement of Tarboche, also called as Darboche. It is the starting point of the Kailash Kora, and is also known as the Valley of Gods. Yamadwar, the gatewat of the God of Death, is located here in Tarboche. We will walk for a few hours to arrive at the settlement of Derapuk, settling right in front of the North Face of Mt. Kailash. Overnight and rest at a guest house.
Distance: 13km – 0.5 hours (Darchen to Tarboche Valley)
7km – 5 hours (Tarboche to Drirapuk)

Among the three days of Kora, today is the longest and the most difficult day. We will be heading towards the village of Jarok Donkhang first, and hike towards the Shiva-stal. We will rest for some time, and take a steep downhill and get to the banks of Lham-chu Khir river. We catch sight of the Holy Pond of ‘Gaurikunda’. We reach the village of Juthulpuk, this place is named after. The famous cave of Juthulpuk, Zruthulpuk cave, also known as ‘the miracle cave’. We will also catch sight of the Buddha’s Footprints along the way. Overnight at a guest house.
Distance: 19km – 8/9 hours (Dirapuk to Juthulpuk)

We will spend the morning touring the nearby Milarepa cave’s caves and temples. After breakfast, we will climb for three to four hours to finish our Kora and return to the Darchen settlement. We’ll eat there for lunch before heading back to Saga. Hotel overnight stay.

In case of clear weather, you will be flying to Kathmandu on this day and will stay overnight at Hotel Hyatt. However, if the weather is not favorable, you will need to stay in Syabrubeshi and take a flight the following morning.

Travelers from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Syria, on the other hand, are required to obtain a visa through their nearest Nepalese diplomatic post (embassy/consulate).
To confirm the trek/tour package, we want a deposit of at least 20% of the total tour/trek fee. The remaining balance must be paid when you arrive in Nepal. We take Visa, Maestro, MasterCard, American Express, and other major credit cards. The total cost of a Bhutan and Tibet tour must be paid in full at the time of booking.
We strongly advise you to purchase a SIM card for reliable internet access throughout Nepal. Nepal Telecom (owned by the government) and NCELL (owned by the private sector) are the two main SIM card providers in Nepal. It is preferable to get a SIM card at an airport, where staff will assist with activation and data plan purchases. If you have a SIM card, it will be easier for you to contact us and locate our airport agent.
You can charge your electrical devices at hotels and lodges because there are no power outages. In the Himalayan region, however, hotel owners may levy a nominal fee.
