Trip Information

Accommodation

During your 14-day Nepal and Tibet tour, we prioritize your comfort and convenience. In Nepal, you will stay in premier 4-star hotels, such as The Everest Hotel in Kathmandu, ensuring a pleasant experience. In Pokhara, we will arrange accommodations at the Kuti Resort or similar property, maintaining the same high standards.

In Tibet, lodging options are more basic. You will stay in a normal hotel in Kerung (Day 1), Shigatse (Day 3), and Lhasa (Days 4, 5, and 6), as well as guesthouses in Tingri (Day 2) and Shegar (Day 7). Please note that hotel standards in Tibet differ from those in Nepal. Restroom facilities can be poor, so we recommend carrying hand sanitizer and wet wipes. In some cases, using the open outdoors might be cleaner than public or roadside toilets.

Transportation and Road Conditions

In Nepal:
If you are traveling solo, we will arrange a tourist bus for the Kathmandu–Pokhara–Kathmandu route. For a minimum of two people, we will provide a private car for this section. The distance between Kathmandu and Pokhara is approximately 200 kilometers, and the drive usually takes around 7–8 hours due to poor road conditions. We highly recommend upgrading to a flight option for this part of the trip.

In Tibet:
Your journey will start at 5:00 AM from Kathmandu, reaching the Kerung border by around 11:00 AM. The road from Kathmandu to Rasuwagadhi (the Nepal–Tibet border) is hilly and bumpy, and conditions are not ideal. For this portion, we will provide a Nepali Scorpio Jeep. Once you cross into Kerung, road conditions improve significantly, with properly maintained blacktop roads. Depending on the group size, you will travel by van or bus in Tibet. Please note that you will be covering long distances by road during the Tibet portion of the tour. After completing the Tibet segment, you will return to Kathmandu at around 7:00 PM.

Adventure Awaits:

Nepal: Climb snow-capped peaks in the Himalayas, trek through lush valleys, and explore ancient temples bathed in warm sunshine. From bustling Kathmandu to serene Pokhara, Nepal’s a landscape of contrasts, with tropical weather in the summer giving way to cool winters.

Tibet: Higher, colder, and drier, Tibet’s mountain ranges pierce the clouds. Trek past glaciers and yak caravans, explore ancient monasteries draped in prayer flags, and witness the vast grasslands stretching under a brilliant blue sky.

Cultures that Captivate:

Nepal: Immerse yourself in the vibrant festivals and colorful traditions of Hinduism. Visit ancient temples, wander through bustling markets, and learn about the fascinating history of this land.

Tibet: Step into a world of Tibetan Buddhism. Monks in crimson robes chant in majestic monasteries; prayer wheels spin peacefully, and the air hums with spiritual energy. Discover a unique culture shaped by the harsh beauty of the Himalayas.

Time Warp:

Nepal: Time ticks a little slower here, at five and a half hours behind the world clock. So, relax, unwind, and let the sun set a little later than usual.

Tibet: Even further east, Tibet is an hour ahead of Nepal, six hours behind the world clock. Remember, when calling home, you might wake your friends before they’ve even gone to bed!

Nepal and Tibet, with their contrasting landscapes, cultures, and even time zones, offer a kaleidoscope of experiences waiting to be discovered. So, pack your bags, choose your adventure, and be ready to be amazed!

Banking and ATMs in Tibet

Are you planning a trip to the breathtaking plateau of Tibet? Get ready for awe-inspiring mountains, ancient monasteries, and a taste of unique culture. But before you pack your bags, there’s one crucial thing to remember: banking in Tibet is limited.

Here’s the scoop:

Cash Rules: Forget ATMs! They’re scarce, especially in smaller towns like Shigatse or Saga. Even in Lhasa, you might find only one lonely ATM hiding in a corner. So, the golden rule is to bring enough cash for your trip.

Big Bank Backup: Luckily, some reliable Chinese banks, such as the Bank of China, the Construction Bank of China, and the Agriculture Bank of China, have branches in Tibet. You can access your hard-earned cash if you carry cards from these banks.

ATM Glitches: Even these reliable ATMs can be temperamental. Expect malfunctions, card reader errors, and the occasional blank-screen blues. Don’t rely solely on them – think of cash as your trusty travel companion.

Credit Card Cash Advance: Feeling strapped for cash? The Bank of China offers a lifeline – credit card cash advances. But be prepared for a 3% fee and a daily limit of RMB 2,000.

Pro Tip: Stock up on cash before you leave for Tibet. Your future self will thank you!

Tibet might be light on ATMs, but it’s heavy on incredible experiences. Stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and a touch of adventure await. Remember, be a cash-savvy traveler, and your Tibetan adventure will be smooth sailing – or, should we say, smooth yak riding?

Road Condition in Tibet

Get ready for epic landscapes, ancient wonders, and roads that come in all flavors! Here’s the scoop on what to expect:

City Slickin’ Smoothness: Cities like Lhasa, Nyingchi, and Shigatse have been busy paving the way for smooth sailing. These tourist hotspots now boast asphalt roads as slick as yak butter – perfect for zipping between temples and markets.

Beyond the City Lights: Venturing off the beaten path? Be prepared for a change in scenery (and road quality). Journeys to Everest Base Camp or Mount Kailash might involve bumpy dirt roads that kick up a dusty dance party in your wake. Think rugged adventure, not highway cruise.

Weather Matters: Rain and snow can turn the smoothest road into slippery slides. Remote areas and mountain passes are especially vulnerable, like the road to Namtso Lake, which can get snowed entirely during winter. Check the forecast before you set off!

Pro Tip: Pack your sense of adventure and embrace the bumps as part of the Tibetan experience. After all, sometimes the most breathtaking views are found at the end of the dustiest ride.

Tips on Tipping

Navigating tipping etiquette can be a tricky endeavor when visiting Nepal and Tibet. As a general rule of thumb, providing a 5-10 percent tip for services such as meals, taxis, and tour guides is typically polite. However, in some cases, like for transportation services, the tip is often included in the final fee.

When tipping service staff, it’s best to tip in the local currency, as the exchange rate may not be favorable for those receiving foreign currency.

It is also polite to offer a small token of gratitude to anyone who has provided a valuable service.

Our guides carry diamox, an effective medication for preventing altitude sickness, ensuring your safety and well-being throughout your journey.

Certainly! We’re flexible and can customize your trip to fit your preferences. If you wish, add an extra day in Lhasa to explore the area more or extend your stay in Nepal for as many days as you like.

If your time is limited, we can also adjust the tour accordingly. It’s possible to shorten your itinerary by spending one less day in Lhasa and three fewer days in Nepal while ensuring you have a complete and fulfilling experience.

You can travel to Tibet from China in two ways. For a quicker journey, we recommend flying, with a brief stopover in Xining. If you prefer to enjoy the scenic beauty along the way, taking the Qinghai-Tibet railway is a great choice.
