Mardi Himal Trekking Itinerary

A warm welcome to you in Kathmandu a city of god and goddess. A representative will pick you up from the airport and take to your hotels. You can see winding backstreets, bustling markets, extravagant temples, and magnificent places while travelling from the airport to your hotel. Once you check into the hotel, you can plan for your evening schedule. Like, walk at tourist hub-Thamel, you can have your choices of a meal or typical Nepali dishes as well. Explore your first evening in Kathmandu with a thrilling roost of a traditional bicycle ‘Rickshaw.’

Early in the morning, you can feel like a local on walking tour of Kathmandu with a unique atmosphere. You will see Buddhist and Hindu devotees at the city’s most famous temples (listed in UNESCO World Heritage Sites). Our leader will guide you towards several incredible sights around the Kathmandu Valley on the day. At Evening, you can have your dinner at your own choice or in the hotel.

Pokhara is known to be a tourism capital of Nepal. After breakfast, you will start your journey towards Pokhara. On the way, Trisuli River will follow you along with its traditional villages in the bank and terraced fields.

After arrival in Pokhara, check into your hotel and then move out to explore the lakeside. Phewa Lake in Pokhara is famous for its picturesque beauty and serenity. It is a perfect place to experience the stunning reflection view of Macchapuchhare, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges. Pokhara is surrounded by magnificent mountains, thick forest, spouting rivers, lakes and also a starting spot for many trekking routes in Nepal.

After breakfast, you will drive for an hour from Pokhara to the starting point of the trek.

With a magnificent view of mountains at the Australian Base Camp, you will have lunch. Then, you will move to Pothana (6397 ft. / 1950 m.) for your first night’s accommodation. You will be mesmerized with a fantastic view of Machhapuchare.

Today, you will start our journey to the Forest Camp. On the way, you will enter to spellbind forest covered with rhododendron, beautiful whistling of birds, and many more miraculous sceneries. It will be the great experience of walking in the jungle with a fresh breath and pure environment, leaving all of your busy schedules behind.

As you start to climb towards Badal Danda (Cloud Peak) from forest camp, you will experience the tree ferns, mosses, and orchids hosted by the giant trees.  The trail will show so many natural interiors of the forest where woods look onto breathtaking panoramas towards Hiunchuli and pass over the Annapurna South. To your left, you will see a beautifully broad range view of Modi Khola Valley.

Reach your day’s destination and have your lunch. You will spend your afternoon on the adaptation of altitude. In the clear weather, you can see the spectacular northern view of Mount Fishtail close enough to your eye.

This trail goes along small winding paths with a short steep climb and the landscape changes into a rugged high mountain landscape which leads to High Camp. Reach high camp by lunchtime and spend your rest time at afternoon with stunning panorama view of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and Machhapuchare close enough to touch.

After enjoying the sunrise and your early breakfast, you will head off for Mardi Himal Base Camp enjoying the dynamic Mountain View and another view as well.  The trek will be 7 hours so you will be taking a packed lunch as there is not any place to eat on the way. The grassy land turns into a rocky, glacial area and high mountains. Enjoy your lunch pack along with a magnificent view of Mardi Himal, Annapurna I and panorama view from Dhaulagiri to Ganesh Himal.

As there is no way to spend overnight, you will come back to Middle camp for your night accommodation.

After your warm breakfast, you will start walking descending 5249 ft. (1600 m.) Along by the side of the forest again leaving terraced fields behind.  You will trek down to siding through different routes to upper Mardi Khola, stream once the bank of ice and snow.  On the same way, you will follow many old villages with traditional houses and tea gardens; your exploration now finds the friendly communities into Kalimat for your overnight accommodation.

After breakfast at a siding, you will start your walk towards Lwang Village through the various river valley. You will be able to capture your trek memories in Tamang and Gurung. Finally, you are now at Lewan Village, a spot for organic tea gardens. Spend overnight in your unique and authentic homestay.

An easy walk in the tea garden with mountain views will take you to the road, and you will travel back to Pokhara.

Mardi Himal Trekking Accommodation

Accommodations:

We will be accommodated with Samsara Resort or similar hotel in Kathmandu. For Pokhara, we will be provided Kuti resort and local tea houses during the trek. The accommodations are made on a twin sharing basis. Single supplements can be served upon request but will cost an extra of USD 250. However, the only room cannot be possible sometimes during higher elevations. In the trekking area, most of your accommodations contain attached bathrooms, while some of the teahouses may not have and you may have to share the washing and toilet facilities in that case.

Meals

During the trek, we have a variety of options in cuisines like Nepali, Chinese, Italian, Continental, Indian, etc. Breakfast will be served from the tea houses or the lodge’s menu, and we will have our lunches on the way to our destination. There will be welcome and farewell dinners with our trekkers.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements:

While our Mardi Himal Trekking, we will be walking 5-7 hours daily on an average. So this is a moderate trek for the habituated and passionate walkers. The ones going on this journey must be habituated to some exercise. The trek up in the higher altitudes is a bit more demanding. However, if we’re physically fit and have a strong determination and sturdy will power, this trek can be accomplished quickly. Past hiking can be an extra asset for the trekkers on this trek.

 

Best Time to Travel:

This trek can be done all year round. However, autumn and spring are considered the best seasons to be making this trek. The weather is warm and sunny and provides you with the best views possible of nature.
Furthermore, winters have a lesser crowd, so we get the serenity of nature — however, it is harsh cold in winters. Trekking in summers and monsoon can be disturbed by rain waters.

 

Acute Mountain Sickness:

During the Mardi Himal Trekking, we move to a higher altitude than 2500m. So our body needs to be acclimatized. We design our treks in slow progress so its more comfortable for a human body to adapt to the changing climate. You might experience symptoms like headache, disturbed sleep, nausea, cough, palpitation, etc. during acclimatization. Trekkers are highly recommended to drink plenty of liquids like water and garlic soup. We discourage the consumption of alcoholic substances as it can hamper the fitness and may lead to causing sickness. However, if you experience any symptoms of AMS, our doctors will look after you, and you can also be stopping your trek. The group leader can also ask you to descend as it is the only cure to Acute Mountain Sickness.

Do I need physically strong for Mardi Himal Trek?

Yes, you must have basic physical fitness but you do not need athletic. If you are physically and mentally strong you can do this trek easily.

 

Why I choose a local agency for Mardi Himal Trek?

Local agencies are expert in mountain tourism. They will provide an experienced and well-trained guide and porter. By this, your trekking will be easy and you will get full information about the trekking.

 

What is the difference between a solo trek and an organized trek?

If you do individually this is a solo trek. You need to take Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (Cost USD NPR 3000, approx USD 27) and Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS), which cost is NPR 2000, approx USD 18. You will get those permits from Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu. You must be responsible with yourself because this is a little bit adventurous trek. If you join with government authorized trekking company that is organized trek. This is highly recommended. All of your paperwork will arrange by respective trekking company.

 

Do I need travel insurance for this trek?

Yes, you should have travel insurance which must cover medical, accidental and rescue part. Some companies will operate this trek without travel insurance but this is a risky decision.

 

Is there internet and electricity access during the Mardi Himal Trek?

Yes, there is an internet facility in teahouses. Also, you can buy a local SIM Card and activated 4G; you can easily buy in the Airport and nearby your hotel. Peregrine Treks will provide one local 4G SIM with 2 GB Data pack. Similarly, there is electricity in teahouses you can charge your electronic devices.

 

Is this trek is suitable for elder, beginner trekker and children?

Yes, this is easy trekking in Annapurna Region. You need to walk around 5-7 hours per day.

 

Do I need any training before Mardi Himal Trek?

You do not need any special training before this Mardi Himal Trek. But, swimming, jogging and other physical exercise help you during the trek.

 

What is the maximum and minimum temperature during the Mardi Himal Trek?

If you are doing this trek in summer and Rainy season the minimum temperature will be around minus one degree Celsius and maximum is around 20 degree Celsius. In winter the temperature drops up to minus ten. But don’t worry; the minimum temperature is from midnight to early morning at that time you will be inside the teahouses. You can ask for extra blankets or you can use your sleeping bag.

 

Which is the best season to trek in Mardi Himal?

March, April, May, September, October and November are the best month for Mardi Himal Trek. June, July and August are the rainy season and December, January and February is winter season in Nepal.

 

Can I drink tap water directly?

We won’t recommend you to drink tap water without any purification.

In the trekking area, most of your accommodations contain attached bathrooms, while some of the teahouses may not have and you may have to share the washing and toilet facilities in that case.

Meals

During the trek, we have a variety of options in cuisines like Nepali, Chinese, Italian, Continental, Indian, etc. Breakfast will be served from the tea houses or the lodge’s menu, and we will have our lunches on the way to our destination. There will be welcome and farewell dinners with our trekkers.

Physical Condition & Experience Requirements:

While our Mardi Himal Trekking, we will be walking 5-7 hours daily on an average. So this is a moderate trek for the habituated and passionate walkers. The ones going on this journey must be habituated to some exercise. The trek up in the higher altitudes is a bit more demanding. However, if we’re physically fit and have a strong determination and sturdy will power, this trek can be accomplished quickly. Past hiking can be an extra asset for the trekkers on this trek.

 

Best Time to Travel:

This trek can be done all year round. However, autumn and spring are considered the best seasons to be making this trek. The weather is warm and sunny and provides you with the best views possible of nature.
Furthermore, winters have a lesser crowd, so we get the serenity of nature — however, it is harsh cold in winters. Trekking in summers and monsoon can be disturbed by rain waters.

 

Acute Mountain Sickness:

During the Mardi Himal Trekking, we move to a higher altitude than 2500m. So our body needs to be acclimatized. We design our treks in slow progress so its more comfortable for a human body to adapt to the changing climate. You might experience symptoms like headache, disturbed sleep, nausea, cough, palpitation, etc. during acclimatization. Trekkers are highly recommended to drink plenty of liquids like water and garlic soup. We discourage the consumption of alcoholic substances as it can hamper the fitness and may lead to causing sickness. However, if you experience any symptoms of AMS, our doctors will look after you, and you can also be stopping your trek. The group leader can also ask you to descend as it is the only cure to Acute Mountain Sickness.

Do I need physically strong for Mardi Himal Trek?

Yes, you must have basic physical fitness but you do not need athletic. If you are physically and mentally strong you can do this trek easily.

What is the difference between a solo trek and an organized trek?

If you do individually this is a solo trek. You need to take Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (Cost USD NPR 3000, approx USD 27) and Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS), which cost is NPR 2000, approx USD 18. You will get those permits from Nepal Tourism Board, Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu. You must be responsible with yourself because this is a little bit adventurous trek. If you join with government authorized trekking company that is organized trek. This is highly recommended. All of your paperwork will arrange by respective trekking company.

 

Do I need travel insurance for this trek?

Yes, you should have travel insurance which must cover medical, accidental and rescue part. Some companies will operate this trek without travel insurance but this is a risky decision.

 

Is there internet and electricity access during the Mardi Himal Trek?

Yes, there is an internet facility in teahouses. Also, you can buy a local SIM Card and activated 4G; you can easily buy in the Airport and nearby your hotel. You do not need any special training before this Mardi Himal Trek. But, swimming, jogging and other physical exercise help you during the trek.

 

What is the maximum and minimum temperature during the Mardi Himal Trek?

If you are doing this trek in summer and Rainy season the minimum temperature will be around minus one degree Celsius and maximum is around 20 degree Celsius. In winter the temperature drops up to minus ten. But don’t worry; the minimum temperature is from midnight to early morning at that time you will be inside the teahouses. You can ask for extra blankets or you can use your sleeping bag.

March, April, May, September, October and November are the best month for Mardi Himal Trek. June, July and August are the rainy season and December, January and February is winter season in Nepal.
