Overview of Mardi Himal Trekking

One of the most legendary treks you can experience in Nepal is the Mardi Himal Trekking. The beautiful country full of the Himalayas has recently brought up the path for this trek. Despite being less popular than other treks here in Nepal, Mardi Himal Trekking is not off-beaten. Mardi Himal is one of the best options for less effort to complete any trek, and it pictures mystical mountains with never-ending rivers and dense forests in one frame. Mardi Himal Trekking is an alternative to Annapurna Base Camp and Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking in Nepal.

All those beautiful sceneries will mesmerize your trip by the end of Mardi Himal Trekking. The chance to learn the people’s cultural and traditional way of living there will make your trek even more beautiful. The incredible natural beauty you see during this journey is full of the Himalayas, Flora, and Fauna. This is short and less tiring hiking for moderately fit people.

Journey to Mardi Himal

In the year 2012, the Mardi Himal’s amazing trek was unlocked. However, this trek initiates from Kathmandu, typically whose journey is for ten days. On the way, you will visit Pokhara on the visitor bus. Undoubtedly, you can spend your day at Pokhara around the magnificent Phewa lake, a popular tourist destination. The places around Pokhara and Kathmandu valley add more beauty to your journey. Mardi Himal Trekking begins from Dhampus Phedi; the trek goes up to Deurali.

Around this area, now gradually teahouses are increasing. Since this is also an alternative for the Annapurna Base Camp, the trekker for the Annapurna Base Camp separates from here. Still, Mardi Himal Trekking swarms up to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, located at 4500 meters. Henceforth, Mardi Himal Trekking ends near Pokhara, usually at Phedi. You must drive back to Kathmandu and spend your night there. Meanwhile, the extension of the trip also sanctions you to sightseeing around Pokhara and Kathmandu Valley.

Mountain Views

Being Nepal’s youngest and easy trekking path, the Mardi Himal Trekking has gradually become wholly famous for trekkers. This trek follows the western margin of Mt. Machhapuchhre up to the altitude of 4500 meters at the Mardi Himal Base Camp. Yet, the trek is usually less crowded than other treks.

Moreover, this magnificent trek sums up all the Himalayan beauties, diverse flora, and fauna, especially around the dense forest. Subsequently, an adventurous tour has a snow-covered path. Best season for the Mardi Himal trek

Generally, the weather condition is not also persistent around trekking areas. There is a swing in the temperature around the Himalayas. So, the best season for you to adapt to experience the Mardi Himal trek is in March, April, May, September, October, and November.

    Mardi Himal Trek in Autumn

The Autumn season lies during September, October, and November. It is up to scratch to trek during mid – September to early December for trekking in Nepal. Hence, trekking in Mardi Himal during Autumn is perfect. The skies are clear enough, and the temperature is warm. The view of a shining peak on the top of the skies melts your heart. The view of the Annapurna range is clear during Autumn due to summer rainfall there.

The temperature of Autumn during Mardi Himal trekking is not above 20 degrees Celsius at the day – time. During the nighttime, the temperature places down to 10 degrees Celsius. This prevents you from carrying a heavy bulk of clothes while trekking. The sunny and warm weather makes your trekking clear and smooth due to the region’s Monsoon rainfall.

However, Autumn is the perfect season for trekkers, so this period will likely be a bit crowded during the trek. Since the temperature is neither too cold nor too hot, it is the perfect time to experience the Mardi Himal trek.

    Mardi Himal Trek in Summer

There is never a wrong time for trekking, but Summer is a chunk for Mardi Himal. In Nepal, June, July, and August are estimated as Summer. This time frame is also called Monsoon. Heavy rainfall makes the trackway towards Mardi Himal moist and sticky. It would help if you became very attentive, and it is perilous to conquer every step during the trek. Around the Annapurna ridgeline, the climate gets hugely hot.

One of the eminences of Mardi Himal trekking during Summer is that there is the least number of trekkers. So, it is a perfect time if you are looking for a solitude trek. You also do not have to face the problem of reserving lodges and teahouses during the trek due to the fewer trekkers during this season.

However, walking around muddy, slippery areas might make your trek difficult. Only people with extreme physical fitness are preferred to go there. The temperature around Mardi Himal is about 10 -23 degrees Celsius during the day. Whereas at night, the temperature falls to 10 – 15 degrees Celsius.

    Mardi Himal Trek in Winter

Not so far, the Winter season falls during December, January, and February. This season is frigid, with a temperature of 9 – 12 degrees Celsius during the day—the temperature decreases to -5 degrees and more during the night around Mardi Himal. Due to the cold and dry climate, trekking anywhere in Nepal is very difficult. The roads are covered with snow, adding to the trek’s difficulty.

Not being so popular, you can find a significantly lesser number of trekkers during this season. Perhaps, it makes it easier for you to find suitable lodges and tea houses for your trek. This solitude trek is a bit difficult. It would help if you also carried a lot of bulky and heavy clothes. This may add to more difficulty while trekking. Even if you are habituated to bearing cold, you still must be careful while trekking. The scenic beauty you see around the Annapurna ranges is worth your efforts. Pictures are more precise and more beautiful during winter due to clear skies.

    Mardi Himal Trek in Spring

Spring reclines during March, April, and May. The apex temper for trekking has a temperature of 17 – 20 degrees Celsius. At the same time, it gets 0 – 5 degrees at night. It is quite a perfect time to trek around Mardi Himal during Spring. Your trekking paths are filled with diverse varieties of flora and fauna. The national flower of Nepal, ‘the rhododendron,’ starts to blossom throughout the paths. This is also the perfect time to explore wild plant species in the dense forest. You can capture the beautiful scene of the Annapurna range as it is pre-monsoon season.

Most of the teahouses and lodges are available during this time. The climate is warm and clear skies make your journey more beautiful than ever. Sometimes, as it is the second peak season for trekking, it might be challenging to get lodges. But the maximum number of lodges provides you with comfort. You may also want to experience little rainfall. Rainfall occurs during May. The humid weather lets you not carry bulky clothes during the trek. However, this season is also adequately famous for trekkers after Autumn.

What to Pack for the Mardi Himal Trek?

Unless, like other treks, packing for Mardi Himal trekking is not a tough job. It would help if you carried all the equipment you need up there. Starting with warm clothes, pack the base layer and insulation and the outer layer. Your hands and legs get freezing up there at 4500 meters. In that case, you must carry gloves, socks, and comfortable boots that could be used during trekking. The average temperature is 10 -120 degrees during the day and below 10 degrees at night.

To stay hydrated, you should possess a respective water bottle. Do not forget to carry your travel permit and your visa and passport. You need to have local currency or an ATM card for your expenses. Also, do not forget to pack toilet paper, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip care, etc. However, it would help to carry a portable charger to charge your electronics since there might not be enough tea houses around some areas. Carrying many extra things may cause safety trouble for you and your belongings.

How safe is it to do the Mardi Himal Trekking?

Elders to children can easily crown this trek. Beginners say that this trek is moderately challenging to complete. Expert trekkers are likely to find this trekking track comparatively comfortable and shorter than other treks. However, it would help if you were physically fit for this trekking. Make sure to have physical exercise practice or a regular walk before the trek to enjoy this trek with more energy.

The safety of the trek also depends upon the climatic conditions. Autumn and Spring are regarded as the best trekking around Nepal. So, it is very safe for you to trek during these seasons. Trekking in summer and Spring is a significant threat.

A typical day during Mardi Himal Trek

Trekking in Mardi Himal is an entirely new experience of trekking. Being the newly explored trekking trail, this trek is not as challenging as other treks. However, it would help to reside around tea houses or lodges during the trek. In the morning, lodges offer Breakfast, and you must get ahead for the next trekking stop.

You must be physically ready to walk 6 -7 hours a day. During the trek, you can interact with the natural beauties of flora and fauna, the wild plant species around the path, and the glorious mountain view from different spots.

Once you start walking for 3 -4 hours, you can take a rest. In the meantime, there are spots of tea houses where you can have your lunch and snacks. Your porters and guide will be along with you throughout the trek. Although you can rest in between, the trek should end by 5 P.M.

There is an accommodation spot where you can explore nearby places once you reach there. Dinners will be served to you by the lodge itself in the evening. You can discuss your trek with your group members at nighttime and use your free time for entertainment.

Your guide will also explain your next day’s trek. It would help if you rested after your long journey, so you must sleep properly. We must move ahead the next day as well.

    Communication during the trek

Getting in touch with your well-wishers is hard during the times of trek. The hotel provides you with internet and a wi-fi facility. Although lodges and teahouses during the trek also have internet and wi-fi facilities, you may not have easy access to them due to network errors. A few times during the trek, you also might have to pay an extra charge for using the internet.

Upon arrival, Peregrine Treks and tours will provide you with one local sim card and the 2 G.B. data pack. You can quickly recharge your card and communicate. But sometimes, communication is difficult due to network errors during the trek. However, unlike other treks during the Mardi Himal trek, you do not have to face many communication problems.

Water and electricity during the trek

You do not have to worry about water and electricity during the trek. You can quickly get warm and purified water from the hotel and lodges. There are various spots where you can charge your electronics and gadgets. Your place of accommodation provides you with this service.

We highly advocate that you carry a portable charger for emergencies. As you must travel 6 – 7 days, it is pretty unsure to find teahouses. Drinking directly from tap water is harmful, so you must carry your water bottle to purify them.

Extra personal expenses during the trek

In these trekking packages, we do not agree with covering your expenses. Carrying local currencies or cards during the time of trek is essential. It would be best to expense personal behavior such as bottled water, extra snacks, lunch and dinner in Kathmandu and Pokhara, bar bills, etc. If you want to give some tips to your guide or potter, it is also regarded as a personal expense.

Occasionally, it would help if you were reimbursed extra for charging your gadgets around off-beaten areas. Sometimes, you might need to pay extra to charge your electronics, use the internet, and drink bottled water. You must reinforce an extra porter’s fee by yourself. From shopping to beverage bills, you must cover them yourself.

    Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is highly recommended but not essential for the Mardi Himal trek. In the worst-case scenario, we ensure your health and medical treatment if required during travel. This insurance helps cover your health treatment, rescue, and medical part. It is hazardous to continue the trip without travel insurance.

    Passport and visa

You must apply for a visa and passport to fly internationally for this trek. Your passport should contain at least one empty page to apply for a visa at a time. There must be six months or more validity of the passport at entry.

    Tipping

You need to fetch the tipping expenses for the porter and guide, lodges staff, or maybe private car drive. Our agency does not include the cost of tipping your helpers during the trip.

    Booking and payment process

Peregrine Treks and Tours offer your booking through an online process. You can easily book your trip by simply paying online. We do not charge any extra fee during online payment. We accept various credit and debit cards. Bank transfer is also available, but the bank may charge you an extra amount. Once the payment is made, send the screenshot to confirm your booking.

Once you receive the booking, per person will be charged US$99. You need to pay this reservation fee to confirm your trip booking. This amount is nonrefundable. You must pay 20% of the total tour cost 60 days before departure. You must settle the remaining money once you arrive in Kathmandu.

    Last-minute booking

Peregrine Treks and Tours accept your last-minute booking. It is valid 24 hours before the trip; you can make a reservation. Anyhow, at the last minute, you need to make 50% of your total payment at the time of booking. Whereas nationals of Tibet, India, and Bhutan are vital to pay only a certain percentage of tour costs the last time booking.

    Trip extension

Most of you want to explore more by extending your trip. You can easily extend your trip and move ahead for the Annapurna Base camp trek, one-day Pokhara tour, or two days Kathmandu tour, or three days Chitwan Jungle safari. You can visit your craved place around there in the extension package. You might want to broaden your trek towards Annapurna Base camp to see mystical Annapurna ranges even closer.

Moreover, extending your trip around Pokhara and Kathmandu lets you sight-see around those valleys. It conveys your trip to UNESCO heritage sites and beautiful destinations around Pokhara valley. Chitwan Jungle safari is beautiful and full of wild species. You can explore there to have a closer look at the wildlife.

    Easy Trek

Went on a solo trek to Mardi Himal. Peregrine Treks made everything effortless from start to end of the trek… which was a luxury for me since I’m used to trying to figure out everything myself, and booking buses, taxis, hotels, doing permits, etc… definitely worth the money to just put everything into someone else’s hands and relax. Mardi Himal could be done without a guide, but for me, as a solo traveler, it was nice to have one (he was super fun and funny as well), and the hotels before and after the trek were super friendly as well. I felt well taken care of and recommend this company to anyone wanting to put their trip into someone else’s (skillful) hands and enjoy nature in Nepal.

    Best Trekking Agency in Nepal

Mardi Himal trekking has been one of the best experiences for me in Nepal. The dense forest and stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and surrounding landscapes were why I did this trek, but the company choice made the trip worthwhile. Helpful, experienced, and professional guide, I will go back to the mountain with Peregrine Treks.

    Professional Tour Operator

It was one of the extraordinary short treks with beautiful views, including mountain panorama and a hiking trail. We enjoyed all things during the trek. Every camp stunts you from the beginning point of Dhampus and Pothana to the base camp of Mardi Himal. The view of Annapurna Mountain and mount fishtail was just amazing. The food served during the trek was delicious, and the guide provided by the Peregrine team was way too incredible.

    Short and thrilling trek

Mardi Himal was a short but thrilling trek. The starting point of the trek was Phedi. The beginning of the trek was quite challenging. We found the people residing at Dhampus and Pothana were too good and friendly. The guide briefly discussed the Gurung people and their relationship with the Gurkha Army in British Forces. One of the best of the trek was the panoramic view of Mt. Annapurna and Mt. Fishtail. We found the teahouse at the high camp was congested due to the many trekkers, but other parts of the trek were comfortable and unique. The guide was experienced and knowledgeable. We recommend Peregrine Treks for other treks too.

Mardi Himal Base Camp solo trek

I was a solo trekker from the United States of America and decided to buy a tour package from Peregrine Treks, and trust me; it was worth it buying the trek pack from them. The owner, Mr. Pradip, provided a transportation facility from the airport to the hotel and a particular person to help me with the hotel check-in.

Talking about the trek, it was short but extraordinary and fantastic. I was paired with 2 Canadians who were great; we became friends after this beautiful trek. The guide provided by Peregrine was well-experienced, and he used to speak English fluently. The two porters were also friendly and were like a family. The trekking was fabulous. The accommodation provided by Mr. Pradip was too reasonable than I had expected.

The views during the trek were too eye-catching and gorgeous. These beauties were something that I’d never witnessed in my life. The views were too good that I can’t even describe them in words. I will revisit Nepal when time favors me. At last, I want to say that the facilities provided by Mr. Pradip and his team were terrific, and I strongly recommend others.
