In 1965, a determined German team, led by Erich Reismueller and accompanied by Ang Temba Sherpa and Phu Dorjee Sherpa, achieved the first-ever ascent of Gangapurna. They overcame the mountain’s rugged south face and east ridge, showcasing their tenacity.

One of the bloodiest events in the Annapurna Himalayas occurred in 1971 when a Japanese expedition, although reaching the summit once more, was confronted with a massive avalanche that left eight people dead. Climbers continued their efforts, including a remarkable Canadian Alpine-style climb in 1981. Yet, difficulties persisted, as seen in an Icelandic expedition in 1988, forced to abandon their mission due to relentless storms.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, hotels provide climbers with modern amenities like comfortable beds, hot showers, and Wi-Fi, ensuring a restful stay before and after their adventure.

As the expedition advances toward the mountain, accommodation shifts to the more basic teahouses and lodges found in villages along the trekking path, where climbers share rooms and basic facilities. Near Gangapurna’s higher elevations, the team sets up expedition tents for shelter, designed to endure the harsh high-altitude conditions and offer a secure, if somewhat comfortable, base for acclimatization and rest before attempting the summit.

    To confirm the trek/tour package, we want a deposit of at least 20% of the total tour/trek fee. The remaining balance must be paid when you arrive in Nepal.     We strongly advise you to purchase a SIM card for reliable internet access throughout Nepal. Nepal Telecom (owned by the government) and NCELL (owned by the private sector) are the two main SIM card providers in Nepal.
