    Road Conditions and Safety:

In most of Nepal’s area, roads are poorly maintained and lack safety features. Especially, hill roads are vulnerable to monsoon season resulting in blockade due to landslide and erosions. Such conditions cause significant numbers of accidents and fatalities. Traffic jam is a big problem faced by people in major cities. Various incidents of violation of traffic laws have been registered in Kathmandu and other major cities. Many drivers are not adequately trained and licensed, yet they drive in the streets. Be aware and avoid getting into such a vehicle.

To drive to two-wheeler or four-wheeler motor vehicle in Nepal, you should have an appropriate license to the particular vehicle. Otherwise, you will be punished according to traffic laws. We suggest you to not expose yourself to any problems during your stay in Nepal.

    Nighttime Travel:

The streets outside the Kathmandu valley lack proper lights, and road conditions are not in good condition. So it is safe if you avoid traveling during night time out of Kathmandu.

    Motorcycle Travel:

Know the speed limit of riding bikes and apply safety measures while riding a motorcycle in Nepal. Fatalities from motorcycle accidents have risen dramatically all over Nepal in recent years. Never forget to wear helmet and safety gear and do not ride bikes carrying more than one person.

    Buses:

If you need to travel via bus, we suggest you choose day travel rather than night buses due to abnormal road conditions in most of the rural areas. Long-distance travel could be exhausting, and you might want to hop on to the roofs of buses for some adventure. Never travel on the dangerous ceilings to avoid accidents and traffic police as roof travel is against the traffic laws.

    Taxis:

Although taxi rides are much more expensive than buses, it could be safer and convenient. All taxis have a meter, but taxi drivers usually do not charge you based on the meter. You better negotiate taxi fare before you step onto their taxi; otherwise, you could be overcharged. In case if you feel like being cheated, contact freely to file a complaint to the traffic police on the street nearby or the local police station.

    Pedestrian Travel:

You might not find a separate lane for pedestrians except a pedestrian bridge. Usually, a person should be careful enough to walk safely on the side of a road and follow zebra crossings and use a pedestrian bridge to cross a busy highway. Otherwise, there is several cases of pedestrians facing traffic fatalities in Nepal.
