Heaven is on earth. The Everest Gokyo Lakes trek takes you to paradise-like places. Moreover, the Gokyo Lakes trek is one of the fascinating places to experience heaven on earth. Peregrine Treks takes you to this exotic land via the Gokyo Valley Trek package, guided by experienced Sherpas, Porters, and guide members.
The trail, consisting of the yak herds and the road less traveled piercing through the Sherpa community, would proudly lead you to the lake beside Mount Everest. Also, the trek to the Gokyo Lakes is an adventurous journey. It would be highlighted by the excellent flight time to one of the world’s most significant and scariest airports, Lukla.
The gateway to the Himalayas, Lukla, a small town in the Khumbu region, is the starting point of trekking. Walking on the trail would be the best acclimatization procedure for the trek to Phakding. Further acclimatization occurs once you reach the Namche Bazar, also known as the Sherpa hub.
You would have a unique experience seeing the beautifully roofed houses and the amazing hustling of the Sherpa people in a small town for shopping. Peregrine Treks knows the terrain is steep and strenuous, requiring maximum acclimatization. So, we take you to the Everest View Hotel, the highest-located hotel in the world for hiking, as part of your preparation for the journey to the Gokyo Lakes.
The stunning views of the snow-capped mountains and surrounding geographical landscapes are seen from the Everest View Hotel. They will take your breath away, and you will instantly be in love with the beauty of Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek after you have been acclimatized in the happening town of Namche, the trekking to the Gokyo Ri.
It takes serious momentum passing by places like Dole and Machhermo. About 4790 m in height, the five lakes would remind you of any fairy tale location. The glacial lake resides smiling beside the tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8848 m). The water in the lakes looks pristine and pure. So, the aura around the place would make any non-creative and non-romantic personnel into a romantic poet.
All the pain during the Gokyo Lakes Trek up to the lakes remains the sweet memory of these beautiful lakes. The trip to the foothills of Mount Everest and taking a sip of coffee on the banks of these clear-water lakes is worth millions, and the memory will last in your soul for eternity.
Hence, relish the adventure and thrill of the Gokyo Valley Trek with the experienced Peregrine team, visit this pristine land, and keep the great memory in your soul forever.
A Peregrine Tour Nepal representative will greet and welcome you as soon as you land at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).
The day you check in, a pre-arranged meeting will be hosted at the hotel to brief you about the tour, and the arrangements for the required kits will be made. We will introduce you to our team members to guide you throughout Gokyo Lakes Trek.
Drinks and Snacks will be arranged for, and you will be addressed to the remaining trek members — a much sorted time to communicate with each other and know your fellow companies well. You’ll have to submit your documents and complete the remaining formalities on this day, so no further inconveniences occur.
Meals: Not Included
We will be moved to the airport for a 35-45 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. This small flight is majestic and thrilling with the beauties of mountain peaks and starts from Kathmandu rooftops.
We will meet our other team after our arrival upon Lukla (2860m). On the same day, we started trekking for the Phakding village. The trek lasts for 3-4 hours, and we witness the sacred mountain Khumbila(5751m) from the town of Cheplung, we come across the Dudh Koshi river, and a gradual walk leads us to Phakding village.
From Phakding village, we can have a sight of Kusum Kangraru Mountain. The town in the north valley of Lukla has several quality lodges, hotels, and guest houses for tourists and trekkers. We will stay there for the night and the day after, continuing our Gokyo Lakes Trek.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
We will start heading towards Namche Bazaar just after our breakfast. This is the day; we become evident in the promising exquisiteness of the mountains.
We pass along lovely pine forests and revealed land. Cross a steel suspension bridge up above the glacial river, Dudh Koshi. Also, trek along Bhote Koshi, a sister of the Koshi family. As we embark on our journey, mountains like Mt. Nupla (5885m) and Kongde Ri (6093m) rise to give us a sight of themselves.

Furthermore, we cross Kusum Khola and witness Mt. Kusum Kangraru to the east, the head of the valley. We come across some fields of donkeys and yaks loaded with trek gears and trading goods.
If you haven’t seen the Mani stones, you’re about to be addressed to the holy mantra of Buddhists and Brahmins, “Om Mani Padme Hum,” which translates to “Hail to the jewel in the lotus.” We also see Mt. Thamserku (6808m) at a turn of the trail. We cross the Monjo pass; we enter the Sagarmatha National Park, where we can look forward to rich vegetation and wildlife like red pandas, yaks, etc.
Then we commence our ascent to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. The most crucial trade section for the Tibetans and Sherpas living around the valley. If the weather is just beautiful and we are lucky enough, we might catch our first glimpse of Mt. Everest.
This is an adventure trek, breathtaking and rewarding as well. But this is just the forestage of what is to come. We will rest, relax, and stay overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
This day we will spend acclimatizing in the thinning air. However, there are plenty of things we can do in Namche Bazaar. Our guides can escort you to the museum, where you can catch an idea of traditional Sherpa life.
We can trek up to Syangboche and the Everest View Hotel, located at the highest altitude in the world. It provides a glimpse of mountains like Everest and many others.
Similarly, if we hike along Sagarmatha National Park, we can catch a sunrise view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and many more. We can also find a panoramic view of the Namche village up the hill from Syangboche.
We can roam around the colorful Namche Bazaar to catch a bargain in the evening. Tea or coffee in Namche Bazaar is considered the most important thing to do, so we set the morning and evening cups with us.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
The day will start with a hot breakfast in the Lodge. We will Climb stony staircases for the first half an hour and then trek on the flat trails for two hours with closer views of the mountains to arrive at Sanasa.
You can enjoy a cup of tea here and continue, but you will see two trekking paths; one is on the way to Everest Base Camp Trek on the left, but we will catch the right ascending trail. It is a continuous ascending trail to Mong La danda for 2 hours. This trail has minor traffic compared to the trekkers on the EBC trails.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
From Dole, we will ascend to Machhermo on the wide valley with mountain views of Kangtega, Thamserku, and Kusum Kanguru. It is on the way to today’s destination, which takes about 5-6 hours.
Machhermo has some excellent Lodges where there is a hospital for the Trekkers. If you want, you can go there to get some information about AMS.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
The Trails ascend the ridge with a view of Kanga and Mountain Cho-Oyu. The trail steeps up Kharka, where there are stony houses. We continued to Panka (4380m) village, and the big avalanche washed away the trekking group in November 1995.
Then, the trail steeps up and narrows until Ngozumpa Glacier crosses the wooden bridge to arrive at the lake. After walking for some time, we will reach the second lake at 4720m and Dudh Pokhari at 4750m, close to the Gokyo (4780m), where we will spend the night.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
We will wake up early at 3 o’clock and start walking to the Gokyo Ri with a flashlight. Don’t forget to bring a Camera and a Hot water bottle. It takes about 2-3 hours to climb Gokyo Ri.
From Gokyo Lake, hike uphill towards Gokyo Ri to observe the glorious sunrise on the casement of the mountain. It has a splendid 90-degree view of Everest and its neighboring mountain.
The mystical experience of Gokyo Lakes and the valley will accompany you throughout the trip. Then, descend to the lodge, have breakfast, and go back to Dole in 5 hours.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
We will have breakfast at the lodge and descend to Mong la Danda, with a spectacular view of the mountains. You will have a tea break here, and we will then descend to Namche. Then on the way back to Sanasa, you will meet many trekkers from EBC. We will continue to Namche and then celebrate after arrival when we return from Gokyo Ri Trek.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
On this day, we trek for Lukla, where this all started. This steep, downward trail is accompanied by scenic views of the mountains and the sacred Mani walls. And the milky white Dudh Koshi River adds ambiance to our journey as we make our way along it.
This will be our last day in the mountains. After we reach Lukla, we have a lot to celebrate. The team spirit and the invaluable experience are what you take home, and we bid farewell to the mountains. We party and then relax for the night in Lukla.

The Gokyo Lakes Trek requires a moderate fitness level and some prior physical activity experience. While porters and animals will transport your gear and sleeping bags, you’ll only need to carry a lightweight daypack. The primary challenge comes from trekking at high altitudes, which can be demanding. Your body will adapt as you progress, helping you feel stronger and more capable each day.
We encourage participants to exercise regularly and train before embarking on the Gokyo Lakes Trek. Our trekking programs are thoughtfully designed to accommodate all genders and ages, promoting inclusivity and teamwork. Trekking is not a competition but a shared experience where all participants contribute to and support each other along the trail.
Before commencing the Peregrine Treks, we ensure our participants have enough insurance to cover any misfortunes during the trip. You can source your insurance and provide this proof 15 days before the trip.
Purchasing and Local Producers
We try to use local products as much as possible to avoid transportation worldwide. This way, we conserve our ecosystem and also support the local economy at the same time.
Note:
It is advisable to plan for some extra days when scheduling your trek. Arriving in Kathmandu a day before your departure allows time to purchase the necessary gear and rest before beginning the adventure. Similarly, allocating spare days after your trek can help accommodate potential delays or cancellations of flights from Lukla to Kathmandu due to unpredictable weather, ensuring you don’t miss your international flight.
During the trip, unforeseen factors such as political events, weather conditions, or other circumstances beyond our control may require changes to the itinerary. While significant alterations are rare, the trip leader will adjust to the group’s best interests. Any modifications will be kept minimal to ensure the overall plan is preserved. However, we cannot take responsibility for delays caused by these uncontrollable factors.
Flight Delays in Kathmandu and Lukla
Lukla Airport, nestled in a picturesque valley surrounded by mountains, is known for its challenging take-offs and landings. The region’s weather is highly unpredictable, often changing within hours, which can lead to flight delays or cancellations.
The primary aircraft operating at Lukla are Twin Otter and Dornier planes, which are generally dependable. However, we can arrange helicopter services for 4-6 passengers at a time in weather-related disruptions. This service costs between USD 500 and USD 3000 per person, depending on the number of passengers, and must be paid when booking. This expense can later be claimed through your travel insurance.
Helicopter payments can be made in USD, cash, or via credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa, or American Express, with a 4% bank fee applied. Per Nepal Civil Aviation guidelines, helicopters require a minimum visibility of 1500 meters to operate, while Twin Otter and Dornier aircraft need at least 5000 meters. If visibility drops below 1500 meters due to extreme weather, helicopters cannot operate. In such situations, we will reschedule flights to the earliest available date or offer alternative trekking options to ensure your trip proceeds smoothly.
Trailing up to 2500 m can increase the risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Altitude Acclimatization is the key to avoiding acute mountain sickness. Make a slow climb to help your body acclimatize. Drink plenty of liquid-like garlic soup that helps the body with the process. Drugs like acetazolamide (also called Diamox) help the body maintain the amount of oxygen. However, our trip itineraries are designed to consider the time needed to acclimate the human body.
Most days on the Gokyo Lakes Trek, you should start early to catch the clear weather and get the best views. This is also when the villagers do their daily chores, so we engage more with the local culture. We wake up at 6 AM and treat ourselves to a hot cup of tea followed by hot water for washing and shaving. Then, we pack the gear for the trek. A hearty breakfast will be served at the tables. Then, we trek for about 2-3 hours, depending upon the distance to the lodge, which is full of scenic beauty and our destination.
During the Gokyo Lakes Trek, the trekker can stop and talk to the villagers, take photographs, linger around, and enjoy the magic of the beautiful flowers and fauna. Or you can enjoy the gloriousness of the mountains. However, we suggest that you remain within sight of the support crew.
We have lunch where we can please our eyes along with our bellies. Afterward, we continued our trek and tried to get to the lodge by 4 PM. Then, we can read, talk to fellow partners, or walk in the village. Later, we had our dinner, followed by our guide instructing us about the next day’s program. Before sleep, time can be used to read, hear the Sherpa stories, or jam with fellow members from the trek.
Your safety is always our priority. Our trips are well-planned, too. Take every precaution in mind. The team will have cell phones, emergency satellite phones, extensive medical kits, and other necessary apparatus. You will always be in connection with our Kathmandu office. Our team makes sure you are safe throughout the trip. Pre-trip administration, such as compulsory medical questionnaires and travel insurance, keeps your safety in mind.
