Trip Information

Trek difficulty

Due to the long days and steep climb, this trek is moderately challenging. With the limited number of options for accommodation along the way, trekkers must be able to take on the challenge of long days of walking.

From day 5 of your trek, you will generally have to hike for 6 to 8 hours, gaining and descending altitude. This can be incredibly challenging for those not used to long day hikes in higher altitudes, particularly when hiking to reach Kangla Pass, Thorong Phedi, and Thorong La Pass.

On these days, you will be hiking through rugged terrain and higher altitudes, so it is essential to be prepared. Have plenty of food and water with you, and ensure you wear the right gear, such as sturdy boots, layers of warm clothing, and a good hat for the cold weather. Taking your time and resting when necessary is essential, as the altitudes can be draining.

Best time for the trek

Spring is the best time to visit Nar Phu valley; mild temperatures, clear skies, and low rainfall make it perfect for trekking. The night temperatures vary from 8°C in the high elevations to 0°C, making it an enjoyable trekking destination. Trek season begins from mid-March to mid-May, with the Himalayas adorned in rhododendrons and temperatures rising.

From September to early December, autumn is also a popular time to visit Nar Phu, with moderate temperatures and mild wind making it an ideal trekking season. Temperatures range from 20°C during the day to 5°C at night, creating a beautiful contrast between the golden/amber vegetation and crystal blue skies, creating an idyllic atmosphere.

Winter (late December to February) and monsoon (June to August) are also suitable for this trek. During winter, the snow can be heavy at greater heights such as Kangla Pass and Thorong La Pass. But even amid all that snow, there is still a special kind of beauty that can be found. The sunsets take on a unique hue, and the surroundings become eerily tranquil. And during the monsoon season, the lush greenery and the sound of the rain make for a mesmerizing experience.

So, if you’re okay with the heavy rainfall and cold climate, we can help you plan and take this trip no matter what season.

Trek Safety Tips

It’s essential to be prepared and ensure that your body is in the best physical condition to ensure that your Nar Phu Valley trek is successful. Light cardio exercises, stretching, and strengthening workouts a few weeks before the trek will help prepare your body for the changing weather conditions and the higher altitudes you may encounter.

Additionally, ensure that all the essential items are packed, such as warm clothing, a good pair of hiking boots, shocks, gloves, sunglasses, and other necessary gear. Remember to observe acclimatization or rest days when trekking at higher altitudes. This is important to ensure your body has time to adjust to the air pressure and temperature changes.

One Typical Day

Each morning of this epic trek will begin with a delicious breakfast, giving you the sustenance for the energy you need to tackle the day’s journey. You’ll hike for a minimum of 6 to 7 hours, taking in the breathtaking scenery and capturing the memories with photographs and videos. At noon, you’ll break for lunch at one of the quaint tea houses, allowing you to appreciate the beauty of your surroundings.

After lunch, the journey will continue until late in the evening, where you’ll end the day at a tea house or local lodge and drift off to a peaceful sleep. This trek will be the adventure of a lifetime, an experience that will stay for years.
