Overview of Oman and Maldives Tour

The Oman and Maldives Tour is a 10-day, 9-night private holiday. You spend 4 nights touring Oman and 5 nights at a Maldives island resort. Oman gives you the culture and the desert. You visit the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and Muttrah Souq in Muscat, then drive through the Hajar Mountains to Nizwa.

In Nizwa, you visit the round tower of the 17th-century Nizwa Fort. Next, you cross into the Wahiba Sands for a night at Desert Nights Camp. The evening brings 4×4 dune driving and a Bedouin-style barbecue.

On the way back to Muscat, you swim in the green pools of Wadi Bani Khalid. A sunset dhow cruise along the Muscat coast opens the trip on Day 1. The Maldives gives you time to relax and enjoy the reef. A one-stop regional flight takes you from Muscat to Malé, with the routing confirmed before departure. A speedboat of about 45 minutes then takes you to Sun Siyam Olhuveli in South Malé Atoll.

You stay two nights in a Grand Beach Villa and three nights in a Grand Water Villa. A Premium All-Inclusive Dine-Around plan covers your meals and selected drinks at the resort. In Oman, a private vehicle, a professional chauffeur, and a licensed English-speaking guide are provided for every day of the tour. Peregrine also coordinates your Muscat–Malé connection and your Maldives arrivals.

Detail Itinerary of Oman and Maldives Tour

Day 1 — Arrival in Muscat and Sunset Dhow Cruise

Day 1 takes you from Muscat International Airport to the Grand Hyatt Muscat, with a sunset cruise along the coast.

Airport arrival

A Peregrine representative meets you in the arrivals hall at Muscat International Airport. Your private chauffeur then drives you to the Grand Hyatt Muscat.

The hotel stands on Shatti Al Qurum beach, with the airport transfer usually taking about 20–30 minutes. The drive usually takes 20–30 minutes.

Afternoon

Rest after your flight, or walk the beach in front of the hotel. Shatti Al Qurum is one of the city’s main beachfront districts, lined with cafés.

Sunset dhow cruise

In the late afternoon, board a traditional wooden dhow for a local cruise along the Muscat coastline. A dhow is the wooden sailing boat Omani traders used for centuries across the Indian Ocean.

The boat passes the rocky coves and old forts near Old Muscat. Your crew serves dates and Omani coffee, called kahwa, flavored with cardamom.

Cruise times depend on sunset and sea conditions. If your flight lands late, Peregrine reschedules the cruise where possible.

Overnight: Grand Hyatt Muscat.
Meals: None.
Included: Sunset dhow cruise.

Day 2 — Grand Mosque, Muttrah Souq, and the Drive to Nizwa

Day 2 covers Muscat’s two main sights, then crosses the Hajar Mountains to Nizwa.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Start early at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Non-Muslim visitors may enter on Saturday to Thursday mornings, from about 8:00 or 8:30 until 11:00.

The mosque dates from 2001 and holds about 20,000 worshippers. Its main prayer hall carpet measures about 60 by 70 meters and weighs about 21 tonnes.

A crystal chandelier about 14 meters tall hangs above the prayer hall. Coach groups arrive by about 10:00, so an early start helps.

Dress code

Cover shoulders, arms, and knees. Women must also cover their hair, and everyone removes their shoes before entering the prayer halls.

Muttrah Souq

Continue to Muttrah Souq on the waterfront. Narrow lanes sell frankincense, spices, silver jewelry, and pashminas.

Most stalls close in the early afternoon and reopen in the evening. Your guide times the visit before the midday break.

Drive to Nizwa

After lunch at your own cost, drive about 1.5 to 2 hours inland through the Hajar Mountains. Check into the Golden Tulip Nizwa in the late afternoon.

Overnight: Golden Tulip Nizwa.
Meals: Breakfast.
Included: Grand Mosque and Muttrah Souq with a guide.

Day 3 — Nizwa Fort and the Wahiba Sands

Day 3 moves from Nizwa’s fort and market to a night in the desert.

Nizwa Fort

Visit Nizwa Fort, built in the 1650s under Imam Sultan bin Saif Al Ya’rubi. Its huge round tower is the fort’s best-known feature.

Climb the tower for views over the date palms and the Hajar Mountains. Inside, displays explain Omani daily life, weapons, and defense.

Nizwa Souq and Friday Market

Walk the restored Nizwa Souq beside the fort. Stalls sell silverwork, khanjar daggers, pottery, and dates.

On Friday mornings, Nizwa holds its well-known livestock market. Traders lead goats and cattle around a ring while buyers bid. The livestock market operates on Friday mornings, so it is included only when your travel dates align.

Drive to the Wahiba Sands

Drive about 2.5 to 3 hours east to the edge of the Wahiba Sands. At the sand line, a 4×4 vehicle takes you about 11 km over the dunes to Desert Nights Camp.

Desert evening

Join a 4×4 dune-bashing session in the late afternoon. Dune bashing means fast driving up and down sand dunes with a trained driver.

Watch the sunset from a dune crest. Dinner is a barbecue at the camp, often with local musicians.

Overnight: Desert Nights Camp, Deluxe Tent.
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner.
Included: Nizwa Fort, 4×4 dune bashing.

Day 4 — Wadi Bani Khalid and Return to Muscat

Day 4 brings a swim in a desert wadi, then the drive back to the coast.

Desert morning

Wake early to see the sunrise over the dunes. Mornings stay cool in the desert during the winter months.

After breakfast at the camp, your 4×4 returns you to the main road. Your private vehicle then continues north.

Wadi Bani Khalid

A wadi is a valley or dry riverbed that carries water after rain. Wadi Bani Khalid retains water year-round, fed by mountain springs.

Walk the stone path into the canyon, past date palms and irrigation channels called falaj. Clear green pools fill the rocks along the way.

Swim in the pools if you wish. Swimmers should wear modest swimwear, with shoulders and knees covered, out of respect for local families.

Further up the wadi, a short scramble leads to a small cave. Wear shoes with a good grip on the wet rocks.

Return to Muscat

Drive about 3 hours back to Muscat. Check into the Grand Hyatt Muscat for your final night in Oman.

The evening is free. Dinner is at your own cost.

Overnight: Grand Hyatt Muscat.
Meals: Breakfast.
Included: Wadi Bani Khalid visit.

Day 5 — Muscat to Malé and Sun Siyam Olhuveli

Day 5 moves you from Oman to the Maldives by air and sea.

Transfer to Muscat airport

After breakfast, your private chauffeur drives you to Muscat International Airport. Peregrine times the transfer to your flight.

Muscat to Malé flight

There is no regular direct Muscat–Malé service that suits this itinerary. Peregrine books a one-stop regional connection through a Gulf hub such as Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or Doha.

Total travel time is usually 8 to 10 hours, depending on the route and connection times. Peregrine checks your baggage routing and connection times when booking.

Gulf flight schedules can change at short notice. Peregrine confirms the best available routing before you travel.

Time change

The Maldives is one hour ahead of Oman. Set your watch forward when you land.

Arrival in the Maldives

Complete the free Maldives Traveler Declaration online within 96 hours before arrival through the official IMUGA portal. At Velana International Airport, a Sun Siyam representative meets you after immigration. IMUGA Traveler Declaration.

The speedboat to Sun Siyam Olhuveli takes about 45 minutes. The resort also offers night transfers, so late arrivals can still reach the island.

Check into your Grand Beach Villa. Dinner starts your Premium All-Inclusive Dine-Around plan.

Overnight: Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Grand Beach Villa. Meals: Breakfast (Oman), Dinner (Maldives).

See our Maldives tour packages for other islands and resort options.

Day 6 — Guided Reef Snorkeling and Lagoon Leisure

Day 6 begins your Maldives stay with a guided reef-snorkeling safari.

Snorkeling safari

Join the resort’s guided reef snorkeling safari in the morning, when the sea is usually calmer. A guide briefs you on the reef, currents, and safe entry points.

Reefs in South Malé Atoll can hold sea turtles, reef sharks, and many species of tropical fish. Sightings vary from day to day and are not guaranteed.

Wear a rash guard and use reef-safe sunscreen. Never stand on coral or touch marine life.

Lagoon time

Spend the afternoon on the lagoon. Kayaks and paddleboards are complimentary per your plan terms.

The lagoon is wide and shallow in many places, which suits first-time paddlers. Go out before the afternoon wind picks up.

Your Grand Beach Villa

Your beach villa opens onto the sand, a short walk from the lagoon. It gives you an easy base after the long travel day from Oman.

Optional night snorkeling

The dive center offers guided night snorkeling at an additional cost. Book a day ahead through the resort.

Overnight: Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Grand Beach Villa.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Included: Guided reef snorkeling safari, kayaking, paddleboarding.

Day 7 — Move to Your Grand Water Villa and Optional Dolphin Cruise

Day 7 moves you from the beach to the lagoon, into your Grand Water Villa.

Villa change

Spend the morning on the beach or at a pool. The resort moves your luggage to your Grand Water Villa, usually in the early afternoon.

Your Grand Water Villa

The Grand Water Villa sits over the lagoon, with about 100 m² of space. Its private deck has sun loungers, a daybed, and a dining table.

Steps lead from the deck directly into the lagoon. Swim only when conditions are safe, and follow resort guidance.

Ask at check-in whether your villa faces sunrise or sunset. Views depend on the villa’s position on the jetty.

Optional sunset dolphin cruise

In the late afternoon, join an optional sunset cruise to look for spinner dolphins. The cruise costs extra and depends on availability and sea conditions.

Dolphin sightings are common in the atoll channels, but no cruise can guarantee them. Bring a light layer for the boat ride back.

Evening

Dinner is part of your dine-around plan. Book any à la carte venue a day ahead, according to your plan terms.

Overnight: Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Grand Water Villa.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Optional: Sunset dolphin cruise.

Day 8 — Spa and Dine-Around Day

Day 8 focuses on rest, with a spa treatment and a slow day by the water.

Spa credit

Your package includes a spa credit, the amount of which is confirmed in your quotation. Use it at one of the resort’s spas, including the overwater spa.

An aromatherapy massage suits a rest day after the active Oman circuit. Book your treatment a day ahead to secure your preferred time.

Treatments above the value of your credit are charged to your room.

Pools and lagoon

Spend the rest of the day between your villa deck, the beach, and the resort pools. Plan swimming outside the strongest midday sun.

Dine-around dinner

Choose an à la carte dinner at one of the resort’s specialty venues. The Premium All-Inclusive Dine-Around plan allows à la carte dining in accordance with its terms.

Some venues limit dine-around bookings to set nights or charge a supplement. Your quotation lists the venues your plan covers.

Overnight: Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Grand Water Villa.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Included: Spa credit.

Day 9 — Optional Local Island Visit and Sandbank Dinner

Day 9 offers two optional extras: a local island visit and a private sandbank dinner.

Optional local island excursion

Join a short boat trip to a nearby inhabited island. You see Maldivian homes, a mosque, small shops, and daily island life.

Local islands follow Islamic customs. Wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees, and note that alcohol is not available. The excursion incurs an extra charge and depends on availability and sea conditions.

Free time

If you skip the excursion, spend the day on your deck or the lagoon. Your dine-around plan covers lunch at the resort.

Optional private sandbank dinner

In the evening, book a private candlelit dinner on a sandbank, a small strip of sand in open water. The resort takes you there by boat.

The sandbank dinner costs extra and depends on the weather, tides, and availability. Book at least one day ahead.

Before departure

Confirm your speedboat time for Day 10 with the front desk. Settle any extra charges in the evening.

Overnight: Sun Siyam Olhuveli, Grand Water Villa.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Optional: Local island excursion, sandbank dinner.

Day 10 — Optional Floating Breakfast and Departure

Day 10 ends the Oman and Maldives Tour with a final morning on the lagoon.

Optional floating breakfast

Start the day with a floating breakfast served in the water. The floating breakfast is optional and costs extra.

Order it at least a day ahead. Delivery depends on weather and sea conditions.

Final morning

If you skip the floating breakfast, eat at the resort under your dine-around plan. Take a last swim from your villa steps.

Speedboat to Malé

The resort sets your speedboat time around your international flight. The ride to Velana International Airport takes about 45 minutes.

Plan to reach the airport about three hours before an international departure. Check your airline’s instructions.

Departure

Keep your passport, flight details, and medicines in your hand luggage. Peregrine’s support line stays open until you board.

If your flight leaves late in the day, ask Peregrine about late checkout. Late checkout depends on availability and may carry a charge.

Meals: Breakfast.
Transfer: Speedboat to Velana International Airport.

Visa and Entry Information

Visa and entry rules depend on your nationality and can change. Peregrine confirms current requirements before you travel.

Oman

Omani visa eligibility depends on nationality and current entry rules. Many nationalities can enter visa-free for short stays, while others need an e-visa or another visa before travel. Your 4-night stay in Oman fits well within that limit.

For travelers eligible for visa-free entry, current requirements may include:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months
  • A confirmed return or onward ticket
  • A hotel reservation
  • Valid health insurance
  • Sufficient funds for your stay

Travelers outside the visa-free list apply for an Oman e-visa through the Royal Oman Police before travel. Royal Oman Police eVisa

Maldives

The Maldives generally grants a tourist visa on arrival to eligible travelers who meet current entry requirements: See Maldives Immigration for current entry requirements.

  • A valid passport that meets current Maldives Immigration requirements
  • A confirmed return or onward ticket
  • A confirmed resort booking
  • An IMUGA Traveler Declaration, submitted online within 96 hours before arrival.
  • A yellow fever certificate, where applicable

Muscat to Malé Flight Information

The Muscat–Malé sector uses a one-stop regional connection. Regular direct service does not fit this itinerary.

  • Common connection points: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or Doha
  • Typical total travel time: 8 to 10 hours, depending on routing
  • Peregrine coordinates the booking, connection times, and baggage routing
  • Business class upgrades are available on request

Gulf flight schedules can change at short notice. Peregrine confirms your routing before travel and assists if your schedule changes.

Best Time to Visit

November to April is the best time for the Oman and Maldives Tour.

  • Oman: Winter brings warm days and cool desert nights, the most comfortable time for dune driving and wadi walks
  • Maldives: The northeast monsoon brings generally drier, sunnier weather and good snorkeling conditions

Omani summers, from May to September, bring extreme heat inland. Desert activities become difficult in those months. Christmas, New Year, and the Easter period fall early in both countries. Book several months ahead for those dates.

Activity Level and Preparation

The tour is rated moderate. The Oman section includes long drives, uneven paths, and a rocky walk at Wadi Bani Khalid.

  • Comfortable walking shoes with a good grip are essential
  • Basic swimming ability helps at the wadi and in the Maldives
  • Dune bashing involves bumpy, fast driving, so tell Peregrine about back or neck problems

Health and Safety

Oman

  • Desert excursions use licensed 4×4 vehicles with trained drivers
  • Follow your guide’s instructions in the desert and at the wadi
  • Carry enough water, as the sun is strong even in winter
  • Wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen

Maldives

  • Follow the resort’s marine safety instructions
  • Wear life jackets when the crew requires them
  • Follow snorkeling guidelines and stay with your guide
  • Sea conditions can change or cancel water activities

Travel insurance with medical, evacuation, and trip-disruption cover is strongly recommended.

Local Customs

Oman

  • Dress modestly in public, covering shoulders and knees
  • Follow the full mosque dress code at the Grand Mosque
  • Ask before photographing people, especially women

Maldives

  • Resort islands follow different rules from inhabited islands
  • Alcohol is available at resorts
  • Local islands follow Islamic customs, and alcohol is not available there

Currency and Payments

Oman

  • Currency: Omani Rial (OMR)
  • Major cards are accepted in hotels and city shops
  • Carry some cash for souqs and small purchases

Maldives

  • Currency: Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR)
  • US dollars are widely accepted at resorts
  • Extra charges are usually settled at checkout
