Trip Information

Trek Difficulty

The Pikey Peak Trek is popular among hikers seeking a moderate challenge. The trail winds through the lower Everest region. It offers a manageable route that does not feature steep or particularly strenuous sections. Nonetheless, the daily walk of 5 to 6 hours can be tiring, as the terrain features frequent ups and downs. The trek’s highest elevation point is a scenic viewpoint at 4065 meters above sea level. So it is attainable due to the low altitude of the trek. Overall, the Pikey Peak trek is an accessible and rewarding adventure for those seeking an enjoyable hike in the Everest region.

Best Season

Pikey Peak Trek is doable all year round, but the best time to climb is autumn and spring. The autumn season falls between September to December. This season is famous for its clear skies, stable weather, and excellent views. It is also when Nepalese people celebrate the biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar, adding to the festive atmosphere. During springtime, from March to May, the mountainscapes are adorned with vibrant and alluring blooms, including delicate pink rhododendrons, resplendent red magnolias, and brilliant yellow daisies. This magnificent natural tapestry is a visual feast for climbers who trek to the peak during spring.

The period from June to August marks the onset of the monsoon and summer seasons. These seasons usher in heavy precipitation, intensifying the risk of landslides and floods. The trail becomes perilous due to its slippery nature. Trekkers are susceptible to leech infestations throughout the forest. Yet, the season presents an ideal opportunity for enthusiastic trekkers to explore the verdant vegetation that blankets the entire trekking route.

Winter is challenging for those who want to explore the outdoor landscapes. The season is cold from late December to February. The snowfall is heavy, covering the terrain. So many teahouses remain closed during this time. Pikey Peak Trek may seem daunting during winter. But this adventure is attainable with careful preparation and caution. The magnificent views from the summit make an effort worthwhile. It is vital to equip oneself with appropriate gear and equipment. It is also essential to seek expert guidance to mitigate any associated risks. By taking these necessary precautions, one can safely and enjoyably experience the stunning beauty of Pikey Peak.

Physical Requirements for Pikey Peak Trek

Starting on the Pikey Peak Trekking necessitates adequate physical and mental preparation. The moderately challenging terrain leaves little room for error. There are no quick escapes from the mountain’s side. On average, hikers must traverse for at least five to six hours daily, necessitating ample energy and endurance.

If you’re considering taking on this peak, you should invest the appropriate amount of time and effort in preparing for the mountains’ challenges. You should engage in physical activities such as jogging, running, swimming, and leg exercises several weeks before the trek. This will ensure you’re physically fit for the journey. Adequate preparation will ensure a safe and successful climb to the peak.

Altitude Sickness

Pikey Peak, although standing tall at 4065 meters, is a relatively low-altitude peak compared to the other peaks in Nepal. But, it is still necessary to exercise caution when hiking at elevations above 3000 m. Altitude sickness may appear in symptoms such as disorientation, nausea, headache, and vomiting. To mitigate the risks, it is advisable to hydrate yourself regularly by drinking 2 to 3 liters of water. You should also avoid smoking, alcohol consumption, and heavy meals during long hikes.

Our experienced guides carry diamox in their first aid kit to further ensure your safety. Diamox is a medication that helps prevent altitude sickness. If you feel any of the symptoms mentioned above, please do not hesitate to inform our guides. They will immediately descend with you to lower elevations. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience in the beautiful Himalayas.

I'd totally recommend it.

Climbing Pikey Peak with Peregrine Treks was awesome! We trekked through trails, forests, and villages, where we met some cool people. The trek was chill, and we saw sick views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, and more. Our guide was the man; he knew everything about the trek and hooked us up with everything we needed.
