Everest Base Camp Trek Permit and their Cost

If you plan to trek to Everest Base Camp, you will require different Everest Base Camp trek permits to make your trek legitimate. Most treks in the Everest region lie in the Sagarmatha National Park, so you will require Sagarmatha National Park Permit to enter its premises. You will also require a local area permit, namely Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit.

In the past, the TIMS card was necessary to trek in the Everest Region. But due to the decentralization, the TIMS card is no longer required for Everest Base Camp Trek. A new permit system has been implemented in the Everest Region after decentralization. Instead of getting a TIMS card, it is replaced by the local area permit.

Furthermore, if you plan to trek to Everest Base Camp via the Jiri route, you will require an additional Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit.

Required Trekking Permits for Everest Base Camp Trek

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit

This local area permit was implemented on the 1st of October, 2018. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit is a new trekking permit that replaced the TIMS card.

It is required for all areas of ward no 5 of the rural municipality. And the fee for this Everest Base Camp Trek permit is directly collected by the local government of Solukhumbu District. Furthermore, you cannot obtain this trekking permit in Kathmandu.

  • Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance permit fee for foreigners: 2,000 NRP (approximately US $20)

Where to get this Everest Base Camp Trek Permit?

As mentioned earlier, you can obtain this trekking permit in Kathmandu. If you are flying to Lukla, you can get it at Lukla, and if you are trekking to the base via the Jiri route or Salleri, you can obtain it in Monjo.

Note: Additional permit is required if you trek from Jiri.

Everest Base Camp Trek Permit – Sagarmatha National Park Permit

Every trekker requires Sagarmatha National Park permit to enter the premises of Sagarmatha National Park. As most trails of the Everest Region lie within the national park territory, you have to have Sagarmatha National Park permit.

Trekkers can obtain the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit from Nepal Tourism Board Office on Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu, Tel: +977 1 4256909.

Or you can get the permit at Monjo, which is more convenient than getting it from Kathmandu. At Monjo, a national park office is Sagarmatha National Park’s entry point.

Additional Permit for Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri is a classical route to Everest Base Camp. If you plan to trek via Jiri, you must obtain an additional permit for Gaurishankar Conservation Area. This permit has to be obtained in Kathmandu by Nepal Tourism Board. This will cost NPR 3000 Per Person.
