Most treks in the Everest region lie in the Sagarmatha National Park, so you will require a Sagarmatha National Park Permit to enter its premises. You will also need a local area permit, such as a Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit.

In the past, the TIMS card was necessary to trek in the Everest Region. However, the TIMS card is no longer required for the Everest Base Camp Trek due to decentralization. A new permit system has been implemented in the Everest Region after devolution. Instead of getting a TIMS card, it is replaced by the local area permit.
Furthermore, if you plan to trek to Everest Base Camp via the Jiri route, you will require an additional Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit.

Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit
This local area permit was implemented on the 1st of October, 2018. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit is a new trekking permit that replaced the TIMS card.
It is required for all areas of ward no 5 of the rural municipality. The local government of Solukhumbu District directly collects the fee for this Everest Base Camp Trek permit. Furthermore, you cannot obtain this trekking permit in Kathmandu.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit Cost
- Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance permit fee for foreigners: 2,000 NRP (approximately US $20)
Where can you get this Everest Base Camp Trek Permit?
As mentioned earlier, you can obtain this trekking permit in Kathmandu. If you are flying to Lukla, you can get it at Lukla, and if you are trekking to the base via the Jiri route or Salleri, you can obtain it in Monjo.
Note: An additional permit is required if you trek from Jiri.
